Three photos from Madrid. I was there five full days and took only ten pictures. I remember taking rolls of film last time I was in Europe. I am almost positive that--other than the first cursory look upon getting the pics back from the Osco--I haven't looked at them since. So. I guess I don't really see the point any more. I am trying to decide if that's lazy or cynical or cranky or what.

(Please note the face poking out from the fly of the Evil Clark Gable puppet. ECG's wang has a bespecaled face on the tip. Creepy.)

Five chromatic root babies and one that doesn't fit into that particular color wheel scheme. Couldn't quite find a place for the metallics...but why would the metallics attack the blackbirds?

Off for Madrid tomorrow evening. I say that jauntily as if it's a simply day trip to Long Island or something. I'm a little anxious, of course, because I generally don't travel well. I like my routines until I learn to loathe them...and even then I don't know what to do without The Routine. But this should be good. Great. Fun. Relaxing. Back on Sunday.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens yesterday. Lovely day for it: sunny, 70, breezy. Huge lilac bushes in bloom. In fact, all kinds of things in bloom (no roses) and the leaves still small, shy and new yellow-greeny. There is an amazing beech tree overlooking that place where people get married. Smooth, pewtery skin and straight branches. Nothing like the beech trees in the front yard at the Lesley address in Indianapolis.

Saw lots of birds.

Some type of cormorant (black, long thin hooked orange beak)
American Robin
Some type of woodpecker (big un)
House Finch
House Sparrow
White-crested Sparrow (not sure this is the appropriate nomenclature)
Some type of hawk (being chased by smaller song birds)
Unidentified Bird (Will identify and update)
