Copper Palanquin 07.31.10

Ah, yes. This drawing. I haven't touched it in about two months. I have zero feeling for it right now. Let's hope that changes.

Pale blue egg in clavicle scoop

Bought some of these eggs through my CSA, Holton Farms. You can't tell too well in this photo but they are a very pale blue. I like to pretend I'm eating giant robin eggs.

Final Map of Western Refractoria (pretty much)

Studiomate Teddy recommended a dark wash on the forests. I double checked with one of main source materials and decided this dark wash would be acceptable. But really. Seriously. I think I'm done. Except for a few, very minor (and spiteful) things I might add.

Map of Western Refractoria: finished (I think)

So the map is done. I put a thin ink wash over the watery areas. I'm 99% sure I'm done though I may let it linger on the board through the weekend to see is something else doesn't need to be added. This is--by my estimate--the first large-scale drawing I've finished in about two years. Wow. Not much finished work for being in the studio on an almost daily basis.

Studio Roof

That's right. I had a few up on the roof to celebrate finishing the map.

Map 07.05.10

Hottest. Day. Ever. (Except for tomorrow and the next few days.)

I spent the whole day rendering a jungle--the Jungle of Suttung--and I added a forest, a lake, an ocean of bricks, a sultanate, a padishate, named three rivers and a city and a vanished city . . . but somehow I forgot to take photos of a lot of it. You get an overall shot and a detail of the forest where the feral old poets live. But somehow I slipped the rest of it. Blame it on the heat. And the beer.

Now. Excuse me while I shower with a beer. Good night.

Map 07.04.10

Yesterday's progress. Added some coniferous trees to the deciduous already on the map. Might finish the map today before my face melts off in the 100 degree heat. Probably not.
