The Copper Palanquin 08.30.10 (Superior Junior + blooms)

I'm heading to Paris on Friday. I may stay out of the studio for the rest of the week so I can pack, read guidebooks, learn to laugh and spit like a Frenchmen. You know, that kind of stuff.

Copper Palanquin 08.28.10 (Superior Junior)

Not sure if Superior Junior is going to stay. Well, Superior will stay but I'm not sure that word balloon will. "These Satisfactions Aren't Meant To Be Permanent" is the motto of the Queen of the Vast Nonsense. Kind of like E Pluribus Unum. Except she's not reminding herself about the temporary quality of satisfaction . . . she's reminding her subjects. So they don't get too comfortable like.

Horseplay (it's worse than you think)

So I made a new banner for the site. I'm trying to get this blog and my website cleaned up and looking all sharp before I get laid off from this job. A layoff seems inevitable at this point. I guess I should be getting my design portfolio together but I'm just so tired of pretending to give a shit about design, you know? I've been rolling along in the studio since the beginning of March and there is a part of me that would love nothing more than to get in there five days a week for six or eight hours at a stretch. Working like I do now--going in most evenings for three or four hours and then trying to get full days on Saturdays and Sundays--is too choppy. It's like trying to carry on a long conversation but having it get endlessly interrupted.

But I digress. I found this image when I did a black and white Google search for centaurs. (No, I didn't draw it, jerk.) I was looking for David Trampier's original illustration for the centaur in the first edition AD&D Monster Manual. (I found it, obviously.) I followed the image to this Star Trek fan fiction page. I'm not willing to read the whole thing but--from what I can glean--Spock and Kirk somehow get transmogrified into six-legged centaurs and then do it. Why? Why?

Ewww. Enjoy.

Copper Palanquin 08.11.10

Not much accomplished in the studio last night. Visitors and beer.

Working on the Trilobite Guard, the elite defenders of the Queen of the Vast Nonsense. They come from the Realm of the Trilobite.

Study for the Trilobite Guard

A quick sketch from this afternoon. The Trilobite Guard are the elite guard for the Queen of the Vast Nonsense. I'm not sure this is quite the design their uniforms will be taking. It's absurd enough to be correct but I'll need a few more rounds of sketches.

I'll be in MD/DC for a few days so no posts for a bit.

Copper Palanquin 08.07.10

Just a few additions in the last few days: worked on the throne a bit and finished off the thumbprint mounds.

Copper Palanquin 08.03.10 (The Nautilus Throne)

I'm going to spare you the full shot tonight and just provide a detail.

Still working on my website. I'm not sure I can wrest my domain name away from the fuckalls that hosted it and then sold it to another company.

Copper Palanquin 08.02.10

The Empress and her daughter will shortly be sitting on the Nautilus Throne. Oh, and I added some wood grain to the bow of the palanquin.

Working on a website for all of my completed drawings through a site called otherpeoplespixels.com. It's kind of a template/plug-in site. I'm not crazy so far about the options but I need a site that's less confusing than this in-progress blog.
