New Indianapolis 02.13.11
I'm not sure if it's worth posting in-progress shots of the drawing at this point. I need to draw the whole thing out in graphite first. Yes, that's a rarity for me. I want to dump a ton of information into the drawing--labels, annotations, etc.--and that's something I need to figure out in a more organized fashion. My usual start-and-figure-it-out-as-I progress isn't going to work here.
The part of New Indianapolis I worked on today is called the Palimpsest. It's a mazy section of town where most of the criminal headquarters are located: the thieves guild, the assassins guild, the whores society, that kind of thing. They (the criminals) have frequently bribed city planners to keep from building a more organized, wider street grid within the Palimpsest. Where they've been unable to sink a bribe and actual construction happens, they quickly tear down existing building facades and build them out in the the widened avenues thus narrowing the throughfares. In addition, the criminal organizations with the the 'Sest (as it's known colloquially) frequently pay residents to cosmetically repaint/restructure street-facing facades so that a casual visitor to the neighborhood will rarely imprint landmarks in their memory.
